A new teacher arrives at an impoverished school in Matamoros, Mexico, determined to improve the students’ grades and their whole attitudes to schooling and education. He does this by adopting highly unusual teaching methods that initially baffle and bemuse the students. Thus the term ‘radical’ fairly describes his methods but certainly not the film itself, which warmly navigates its way through a typical schoolroom drama.​​​​
